Couple drown at Shellharbour Beach in NSW’s south as bystanders pull pair from the surf after seeing them ‘struggling’

A couple have drowned together at a popular NSW beach with police praising a group of bystanders who frantically tried to save their lives. Emergency services rushed to Shellharbour Beach, about two hours south of Sydney in the Illawarra region, about 11.10am on Wednesday to reports witnesses had seen a man and woman in need of rescue.
