Gary Ablett reveals ambition of becoming a pro surfer before pursuing decorated AFL career

Two-time Brownlow medallist Gary Ablett Jr says before he pursued a career in the AFL, he wanted to be a pro surfer. In a rare interview, the former Geelong and Gold Coast champion — and son of AFL Hall of Famer, Gary Ablett Sr — says he fell out of love with footy before his career even started, instead turning his attention to surfing, having grown up close to Victoria’s surf coast.
