Tragic ski lift death of Brooke Day in Japan prompts expert warning about suspension trauma

The death of Australian snowboarder Brooke Day at a popular ski resort in Japan has drawn renewed attention to the hidden risks of work and recreation on the slopes. The 22-year-old Sunshine Coast woman was wearing an avalanche rescue backpack when a buckle on the chest strap became caught in a ski lift carriage in the Tsugaike Mountain Resort on January 30. She was pronounced dead in hospital two days later.
